My Background I am an award-winning art director, photo editor and illustrator. My work has been recognized by the Society for News Design and by American Illustration, and it has been featured in Marketplace on NPR. From 2021-2024, I was a visual journalist at Axios. Before that, I worked at ProPublica as a contract visuals editor and story production fellow from 2019-2021.
Helene’s Unheard Warnings
As Hurricane Helene barreled toward Yancey County in North Carolina, communities along the Cane River in the Black Mountains were particularly vulnerable. But there were no evacuation orders, and few grasped what was coming.
